Rule 1

Price information for specified services

Applies only if your firm publishes that it offers one of the specified services: residential conveyancing, uncontested probate (assets in the UK), immigration applications (excluding asylum), unfair or wrongful dismissal claims in the employment tribunal, summary-only motoring offences, debt recovery up to £100,000 for businesses, or licensing applications for business premises. For each such service, publish:

  • The total cost of the service, or — where that is not practicable — an average cost or range, with an explanation of the basis for your charges (including any hourly rates or fixed fees).
  • Whether VAT is payable on your fees and on each disbursement, and whether the figures shown include it.
  • A description of, and the cost of, likely disbursements — or the typical range where the exact figure depends on the matter.
  • The experience and qualifications of anyone carrying out the work, and of their supervisors.
  • What services are included in the displayed price — and any services a client might reasonably expect to be included that are not.
  • The key stages of the matter and the likely timescales for each.
  • If you use conditional fee or damages-based agreements: the circumstances in which clients may have to make payments themselves (including for other parties' costs).

Rule 2

Complaints information

Applies to every regulated firm with a website, regardless of the services offered.

  • Your firm's complaints handling procedure is published on the website — not merely available on request.
  • The page explains how and when a complaint can be made to the Legal Ombudsman, including the ombudsman's role and its time limits — not just a bare link.
  • The page explains how and when a complaint can be made to the SRA (for concerns about conduct, dishonesty or breaches of the SRA's rules).
  • The complaints page is reachable — linked from navigation, footer or sitemap, and the link is not broken.

Rule 3

Publication: clear, accessible, prominent

  • Price and complaints information is clearly written and published in a prominent place on the website — a visitor looking for it can find it without insider knowledge.
  • The information is accessible: not locked in an image, a hard-to-find PDF, or behind a form or login.
  • If your firm has no website, the same information is available on request (kept here for completeness — the rest of this checklist assumes a website).

Rule 4

Regulatory information

  • Your firm's SRA number appears on the website (the footer is the usual home) and matches the number on the SRA's register.
  • The SRA digital badge — the official clickable logo — is displayed prominently, using the SRA's embed code so it renders and links through to your firm's SRA record. A static image of the logo does not satisfy this.
  • The badge still renders after site changes — theme updates, cookie-consent scripts and content-security policies are the usual silent breakers. You can test yours with the free badge checker.

This checklist summarises the published requirements in plain language for working purposes; it is not legal advice, and the SRA's own rules and guidance (linked above) are always the authority. Sources last verified: 2026-08-11.
